MONUMENTO EDITADO: Chile-Perú-Bolivia-Argentina, es el resultado de cuatro años de investigación en torno a monumentos conmemorativos erguidos en Sudamérica y específicamente en estos cuatro países. Estos monumentos fueron intervenidos digitalmente por medio de CGI y Post-producción digital, dando como resultado imágenes ficticias que devuelven la mirada hacia estos monumentos y su presencia en la ciudad contemporánea.
Los monumentos seleccionados evidencian la posteridad del proceso independentista que se llevó a cabo de forma paralela en gran parte de América Latina y que se centró en la construcción de una identidad nacional. A partir de la segunda mitad del siglo XIX hasta mediados del siglo XX, se levantaron monumentos en las principales ciudades de Latinoamérica en función de resaltar un imaginario simbólico de carácter heroico y patriótico. Gran parte de estos monumentos fueron encargados a Europa, lugar desde el cual se diseñaron y moldearon próceres criollos siguiendo la estética decimonónica europea.
En la actualidad estos monumentos se encuentran desvinculados del proyecto de ciudad contemporánea y han pasado al anonimato para muchos transeúntes que se mueven diariamente por la ciudad. Es justamente ese estado de invisibilidad que Monumento Editado aborda, en función de cuestionar la representatividad del imaginario europeo en la construcción de un imaginario histórico local.

EDITED MONUMENT: Chile-Perú-Bolivia-Argentina, is the result of four years of research on monuments erected in South America and specifically in these four countries. These monuments have been digitally manipulate through CGI and digital post-production. The outcome are fictitious images that bring back a gaze towards these monuments, provoking thus, new questionings related to their presence in the contemporary city.
The selected monuments, constructed decades and even centuries after Independence processes in Latin America, were key elements in the construction of a national identity. From the second half of the nineteenth century until the mid-twentieth century, monuments were erected in the main cities of Latin America in order to highlight a symbolic imagery of a heroic and patriotic character. Most of these monuments were commissioned to Europe, place from where Latin American heroes were designed and molded, under a European nineteenth century aesthetic.
Nowadays, these monuments are disengaged from the project of contemporary city they once were part of, and have become anonymous for most passers-by who move daily through the city. It is precisely that state of invisibility that Edited Monument highlights in order to question the representativeness of European imagery in the construction of a local historical one.
